British Sign Language Training

VISCOM-training has been growing steadily since it was first set up in 2005. VISCOM is short for Visual Communication, and specialises in British Sign Language tuition.

VISCOM-training is operated by Bryan Fowler who offers many different services with specific expertise:

  1. Over 20 years experience in teaching and assessing various BSL courses.

  2. Experience in delivering curriculum trainings for CACDP (now called Signature) deliver half or full day various workshops on various BSL features.

  3. Over 3 years experience in translating and presenting on video or websites.

  4. A high level of English, and can translate from English into BSL for BSL users.

  5. In 2002, Bryan was asked by a Liverpool-based solicitor to submit a BSL linguistic report for a deaf client who lost his index finger in an accident at work, showing that the loss of his finger diminished his use of BSL. As a result of the report the client received a substantial damage award against his former employer.

  6. In 2008, Bryan received ‘Adult Learners Week Language Inspiration Award‘ from the Mayor of Leeds City Council.

  7. Bryan recently obtained an ‘Advanced Certificate in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector: BSL’ from UCLan

Current clients include: East Riding of Yorkshire Council, Kingston-upon-Hull Council, Leeds City Council, Jobcentre Plus Leeds, Rosemont Pharmaceuticals and McDonald’s.

Previous clients include: The University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) as a Lecturer in BSL/Deaf Studies.
